Card art for the Innistrad set of Magic: The Gathering. The trickiest issue with this piece was that the magic was to be dark purple. Usually magic is portrayed as bright and glowing which makes it show up well but dark magic requires a light background to show up so it took some balancing before the value scheme worked. The character designs were wide open so it was fun creating them.
I love this card but what drew me to it initially was the art. One of my favorite in the set. This is the first time I've seen the artist post and speak about the card art in a more personal venue. While there may be some merit in the suggestions for more effects on the magic branches the choices you made make for an image that is not only awesome in large format but also quite powerful on the tiny canvas of an MTG card. Brilliant work. Bravo!
This was my first stop so i haven't seen you gallery but have your done any other pieces? Or is this the first with more to come in future sets as you mentioned?
Thanks for the positive words on the piece, I'm glad you like it. I've finished 27 images for Magic but not all have been released yet. You can see the others in my Magic folder in my gallery.
well do you plan on doing more artwork for wizards of the coast or how does that work besides this is some good work if i say so myself it looks like shamans or necromancer and its guards experimenting which appears a curse or trying to revive said dove its awesome though background and appereance for set card im not sure i have this card but i have quite a lot other from said color i love black cards in this game and multicolors of black too their very ******EVIL***** or demoralizing, derstructive, but al in all i think u are a great artist with a great mind for this type of work love it
Thank you, I'm glad you like my work. Yes, I plan on doing much more work for Wizards of the Coast. I currently have 9 finished images that will be revealed in upcoming sets.
I honestly didn't realize there were artists of MTG up on DA like that, so to find the artist and art in a finer and larger detail, it's pretty chill ha ha. (Although this card is evil against me thanks to the bf..but none the less wonderful artwork <3)
